SUMMARY:The Vagina Monologues [a blackbox theatre experience]
DESCRIPTION:The Vagina Monologues [a blackbox theatre experience]\nWritten by Eve Ensler | Directed by Chris Kapp\nPresented by Players on High at the Carlisle Theatre \nSaturday\, February 8 @ 7:30pm\nSunday\, February 9 @ 2:00pm \n“In 1994\, a play called The Vagina Monologues\, written by playwright and activist V (formerly Eve Ensler)\, broke ground\, offering to the world a piece of art like nothing it had seen before. Based on dozens of interviews V conducted with women\, the play addressed women’s sexuality and the social stigma surrounding rape and abuse\, creating a new conversation about and with women. The Vagina Monologues ran Off-Broadway for five years in New York and then toured the United States. After every performance\, V found women waiting to share their own stories of survival\, leading her to see that The Vagina Monologues could be more than a moving work of art on violence; she divined that the performances could be a mechanism for moving people to act to end violence. On Valentine’s Day 1998\, V\, with a group of women in New York City\, established V-Day. Set up as a 501(c)(3) and originally staffed by volunteers\, the organization’s seed money came from a star-studded\, sold out benefit performance at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York\, a show that raised $250\,000 in a single evening for local anti-violence groups including Safe Horizon\, and Sakhi. \nV-Day’s mission is simple. It demands that violence against all women\, girls and the Earth must end.” \nA portion of proceeds will be donated to the Carlisle YWCA in awareness of ({V-Day}): a global movement that uses art and activism to end violence against all women\, girls\, and the Earth.

SUMMARY:Rivers with special guest Big Sky Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Rivers with special guest Big Sky Quartet\nSaturday\, January 18\, 2025 | 7:30PM \nRivers Bio | Born out of the simple idea to be able to play anywhere and at any time gave rise to central Pennsylvania’s indie-folk group Rivers. Brought together and baptized by the mighty Susquehanna\, and with just simple acoustic instruments\, the power trio amasses an eclectic inundation of sound. Made up of Joe Schaefer (bass)\, Matthew Sinkovitz (percussion)\, and Vincent Yarnell (guitar and banjo)\, they spatter forth an electrifying array of technical nuance and heavy-thumping beats worthy to be remembered. Rivers’ style is a wash of genres that defies classification and leaves audiences thirsty for more. Now this folk slaps. \n[This concert is produced by the Carlisle Theatre as part of our mainstage concert series\, supporting local & regional artists.]

SUMMARY:Top of the World: The World's Premiere Tribute to the Carpenters
DESCRIPTION:Top of the World: The world’s premiere tribute to The Carpenters\nShow Date | Friday\, September 27 @ 8:00PM\nOn Sale | Wednesday\, July 10 @ 12PM\ncarlisletheatre.showare.com/TOTW2024 \nFly on the Wall presents – Top of the World: The world’s premiere tribute to The Carpenters! Fronted by singer Debbie Taylor\, her Karen Carpenter vocal resemblance is absolutely astonishing. She is backed by a seven-piece band consisting of top-notch\, professional industry musicians who have had amazing careers in their own right. The band members are all multi-instrumentalists and at times use 3 keyboards to recreate the incredibly complex arrangements created by Richard Carpenter. The attention to detail paired with saxophone\, trumpet\, flute and many more instruments complete every song to perfection! \nThis show does not use tracks or pick up musicians like other shows. This is an 8 piece band that travels and performs all shows together.  Additionally\, they have a multi-media slideshow which can be seen on their “Live Video” below. Who can forget the incomparable music of the Carpenters? The popular brother/sister duo of the 70’s and early 80’s gave us some of the most unforgettable ballads and melodic pop songs of all time. \nThis Carpenters Tribute Band brings the most authentic versions of the Carpenters music to the stage. No doubt\, you will be singing along as they perform hits like; “Close To You”\, “We’ve Only Just Begun”\, “Rainy Days And Mondays”\, “Please Mr. Postman” and “Yesterday Once More”\, to name a few. Debbie captures the warm tones and contralto range that made Karen’s voice so unique. Sit back and enjoy as Debbie and her band take you on a nostalgic journey through the Carpenters greatest hits while sharing some of the backstories behind the music. \nCLICK HERE FOR TOP OF THE WORLD PROMO VIDEO.
