“At a large, tastefully-appointed Sneden’s Landing townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though it’s only a flesh wound, Charlie Brock’s self-inflicted injury sets off a series of events causing four couples to experience a severe attack of farce. As their tenth wedding anniversary party commences, Charlie lies bleeding in another room, and his wife Myra is nowhere in sight. The first guests, lawyer Ken Gorman and his wife Chris, scramble to get “the story” straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and miscommunications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.”

Students Uncover “The Gem of Carlisle”

While in the lobbies in 2024, we would like to draw your attention to our newly updated shadowboxes, where you will see a beautiful timeline of the Carlisle theatre’s history from the 1980s to now. This is presented by Dickinson College’s History Department (History of Methodoloy, Fall 2023 Course), under the direction of Professor Karl Qualls. Professor Qualls was instrumental in obtaining grant funding for this archival project, materials to preserve our archive, and education to keep our history alive.
His history course story is designed to teach students how to do history, not merely study it, with major goals of finding sources, critically analyzing sources, and interpreting and organizing sources to tell a story. We are so grateful they chose our story, so please scan the QR codes on the displays or click the link below for an in depth look at our archives to help us move to a brighter future.
See the brilliant timeline here: https://sites.google.com/view/carlisletheatretimeline/home
Do you have information to offer to our archival project? https://docs.google.com/forms/d/16Y_WS4exsi-ahIyIUIYlhFHwV9yULjZ2EvVlB9ckEE4/viewform?pli=1&pli=1&edit_requested=true
A very special thank you to Professor Karl Qualls, Emma Rodrigues ’25, and the History of Methodology Fall 2023 Class for not only creating a timeline, an organized archival system, and beautiful shadowboxes, but also for taking the time to train our staff on proper archival procedure to preserve our past and enlighten our future. Hundreds of hours went into this project from grant writing, planning, producing the work, and sharing the product.
